Ultrafiltration and diafiltration are essential operations in modern biotechnical production. They are used for the concentration and conditioning of intermediate products within the downstream process as well as for the final formulation of end products. Vogelbusch Biopharma Ultrafiltration Skids are mobile and flexible solutions for various types of applications based on membrane cartridge systems.

The typical features of ultrafiltration skids are:

  • Circulation tank/product tank with optimized design for minimal working volumes down to 5–10% of the net volume
  • Rotary lobe pump in low shear force assembly and sanitary design with double mechanical seal
  • Modular construction suitable for single or multiple cartridge holders
  • Suitability for all standard cartridges
  • Cartridge holders with mechanical or hydraulic closing systems
  • Improved plumbing system to minimize dead volumes
  • Cleaning tank for preparing and holding cleaning solutions
  • All containers are capable of being heated and cooled, depending on their intended uses
  • Optional double tube heat exchangers for cooling the retentate.
  • All systems are optimized for CIP (cleaning in place) and SIP (sterilization/ sanitization in place - except cartridge holders).
  • Transmembrane pressure (TMP) flow rate control
  • Monitoring of temperature and flow rate on the retentate side
  • Monitoring of UV and flow rate on the permeate side, and optional monitoring of pH and conductivity
  • Compatible with all standard process control systems
  • Other membrane systems (spiral wound, hollow fiber) available upon request

Applications:

Most biopharmaceutical processes today use ultrafiltration/ diafiltration processes in downstream purification and/or in the processing of the end product. Thanks to the process-specific design of each unit, Vogelbusch Biopharma Ultrafiltration Skids are used in all kinds of process around the world. Some of the main applications are the production of enzymes, hormones, and antibodies.
